Is it just me or was watching the Federer/Roddick semifinal match akin to reading a Shakespearean tragedy? We all knew the outcome, it was simply a matter of time. Even the commentators during the match showed extreme bias, nearly groaning aloud on Roddick’s behalf at points. Federer hardly seemed to break a sweat, dispatching Roddick in three easy sets (6-4, 6-0, 6-2). The Australian Open championship final will feature Federer against either Tommy Haas of Germany or Fernando Gonzalez of Chile.

More proof why I find the men incredibly boring and not even worth a glimpse. Gone are the glory days of McEnroe/Connors. I never heard so much hype building up to a match. Oh Roddick is this and Roddick is that–He’s much improved since Connors came on–added to his game–blahblahblah. The guy is now 1-13 against Federer. This is the best arch rival they could come up with?
I know, it is irritating that Federer dominates and no one can touch him. Imagine how HE feels, must be tough playing so well, wishing for a challenging match against someone, anyone…. Did you see Gonzalez kick the crap outta Nadal? He’s got spunk.
McEnroe felt a let down in ‘82 when Borg retired. He felt like Borg pushed him to improve. Luckily for Mac, Lendl came along and Jimmy had a renaissance. an I tole ya–I don’t watch the men.
I see. But you used to watch the men. Or you read your tennis history. : D
I did indeed used to watch the men. The first tennis match I ever watched–what turned me on to tennis and motivated me to buy a racquet and start playing was the 1982 Wimbledon Final between McEnroe/Connors that I happened upon. Jimmy took it in 5, the match lasted 4-1/2 hours. I was sold from then on. I watched Connors and McEnroe through the eighties (along with Chris Evert–I could’t Stand Navratilova as she held Federer like sway over the womens game at that time).
It’s neat that you can remember the exact first match that you watched, what an incredible memory. And though I know you are not pro-Federer, I thought it was interesting that he does wish for competition; in fact, he dreams of going back in time and playing Laver and Borg!! Read more on Federer’s dream match.
What was really cool was being able to purchase it and watch it again 24 years later.
VERY COOL!!
That reminds me, I can now savor a Sharapova vs. Williams double-header thanks to you. And, of course, my ablity to procrastinate. After Sharapova beats Williams to reign as 2007 Australian Open Queen (hereafter beknownst as AOQ), I’m going to watch them hammer another scrumptious match a la the DVD you procured for me. A treat!!
